Course Description
This workshop is designed for advanced solar energy experts who need to produce high quality specifications and documentation required by architectural design teams, engineering firms, developers and discerning property owners. This class will cover design drawings, feasibility reports, stringent building department reviews, the bid process, and construction administration for small to large scale, grid-tied photovoltaic (PV) systems.
Prerequisites
Prerequisite coursework: 40 hr. entry level solar electric training (ONTILITY S103 or equivalent). Significant solar industry experience is assumed. Field experience may be substituted for coursework. Knowledge of the NEC and familiarity with design documents and drawings is required. Use of the Internet, advanced problem solving, and math skills are also required.
Course Objectives
Upon Completion of this course, the student will have the ability to:
Given a set of circumstances and location data, create system layout documents
Given a set of circumstances and location data, determine mechanical and electrical specifications and create design documents for the system
Create supporting documents for use by utility companies and other regulatory agencies for to approve grid inter-connection
Analyze commercial load demands and calculate system requirements
Describe various mounting systems used in commercial installations and create design documents utilizing more than one mounting methodology
Describe documentation required by OSHA regulations regarding solar PV system installations
