ONTILITY Launches U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Solar Training Web Site: ONTILITY Solar Instructor Training Network Gets New Tool

HOUSTON, TEXAS (December 13, 2010) – HOUSTON, TEXAS (December 13, 2010) – ONTILITY and Houston Community College (HCC) announces the launch of the Web site for the South Central Solar Instructor Training Network (SCSITN). This site provides solar faculty at educational institutions in a six-state region new tools and resources to advance their solar energy education programs.

The SCSITN Web site is a tremendous asset to solar instructors in the South Central Region according to Ken Whiteside, ONTILITY’S Director of Education and SCSITN Steering Committee member. “We are making use of all the best Web tools to provide an enriched source for shared instructional resources and interaction,” says Mr. Whiteside. He reports that there are schools in the network which have been involved in solar training and development for some time and have education resources and deep expertise, and there are schools which are just launching solar training courses and programs. “Sharing these teaching resources and the experience of the instructors is extremely valuable. It lets the new programs start much faster and more effectively than would otherwise be possible.”

The Web site was developed in-house at ONTILITY and makes use of current best practices for Web development and high quality design. It provides access to information about the solar energy industry; links to career information, job boards and discussion boards, as well as other information of general interest like links to each network member's Web site. In an instructor-only section, a rich library of teaching resources and materials is being built by the participating instructors themselves.

About the South Central Solar Instructor Training Network

The SCSITN was created in 2009 by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) as one of nine regional consortia to promote high quality solar training and education. Joining ONTILITY and HCC in the network's first year are five community colleges, two high schools and one workforce development agency in a six-state region made up of Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. The goal of the Network is to promote and facilitate high quality solar instruction and training based on accepted industry standards.
